Editors Note- by Mikaela W

Hello, I’m Mikki (Also known as Mikaela) and I’ll be your editor for this week’s newsletter.

I’m in grade six and have been at St Kieran’s for seven years! Our school has changed a lot over the years, it’s gotten bigger and we now have a stronger and more unique community.

I love our school for its diverse community, the cultures, different skills, and its kindness towards each other.
I would definitely like to thank our teachers, principal and vice principal, school captains past and present, and our families for all their help with activities, growing our school and growing us to the best it can be.

Our school is still growing in many ways and I wouldn’t change it for anything, our love for God is growing, how to follow in his footsteps, and how to be the best of ourselves in more ways than one.

Whole School News- by Jade C

St Kierans has been top notch with all the exciting and interesting events, like Mindful Aus had a few amazing people from mindful aus who taught us about our comfort zones and how it's good to get out of them from time to time and met our good friend named anxiety.

And the most recently was on the first of August because on that day we had pajama  day everyone came to school looking nice and comfy in there PJs whilst fundraising money for PJ foundation everyone was so cheerful and happy to do something good for the world.

And of course we can't forget about my personal favourite public speaking because the year 3,4,5 and sixes have  been writing and practicing speeches all with the help of Mr hassett (thanks for all the help we really couldn't have done it without you) for many weeks we have all practice to share our speech to all of the classes and to compete at the lions club all while representing st Kierans.

Foundation News- By Jack W

"Tell me what is like in Foundation"

It's Good because its fun and I like it. I like counting to 100 because its fun and sometimes it teaches me something.

And I'm good at reading. I know my letters and sounds and we just learnt c k and that makes a ck sound like back. Theres a ck in duck.

In inquiry we are learning about me and about our families and our cultures and community. Community means, well I think it means things like sports teams, school and cricket.

I really like doing religion. For religion we are learning about who Jesus is. Jesus' mums name was Mary and his dad was called Joseph. We learnt about baptism and we made candles. Mine was peach and it had some coloured dots.

In maths we count forward and backwards to 20. I am very good at it.

We had 100 days of school and we got hot chips and a zooper dooper. We are doing a dress up for 100 days next week, what I am dressing up as is a surprise.

Foundation/ 1 News- By Ava C

In inquiry we've been learning about culture and how a duck and a pelican made the Gunaikurnai people.

And we've been learning about how the duck and the pelican and the duck had babies and they were the Gunaikurnai people.

We have also been learning about Mary MacKillop and how Mary MacKillop teached kids from all over the world and she made seventeen schools and she didn't make them pay her school were for free.

And we have been learning about split digrapg like cake and like and slime and about Jesus.

1KF News- By Harvey C

Hi, my name is Harvey and I am in 1KF.

We have been learning about place value.

My favourite thing is how a digits value changes depending on where it sits. For example 2 is 2 ones but the 2 in 27 is 2 tens.

1KF does great maths learning.

Grade 2W News- By Alyssa W

Hi, I am Alyssa, and I am in Grade 2WM.
This term in Maths we have been learning multiplication. Mrs Walsh showed us how to do groups and repeated addition and arrays. At Mindful Aus we have learned about anxiety and being scared is okay. There are 3 zones, the comfort zone,
the uncomfortable zone and the learning zone. We try to get into the learning so we can get better at things.
In literacy we learned about adjectives, an example is happy and happily. In Japanese we have been doing
language, we know some food words but they are hard to say so please appreciate our efforts.

Ky likes math because he can learn so much stuff like times and subtraction which he thinks is cool.
Now me Alyssa, I like writing I like it because I think it is a good way to be smart when you grow up it make you
so smart these are very good reason’s.

Thank you for listening to this important newsletter so thank you so much.

Grade 2D News- By Archer B

In Grade 2 we have been learning adjectives, arrays, reading and religion.

In writing we have been working on using more than one adjective to describe
nouns. An adjective is a describing word that gives more detail about a noun.
An example is “Archer Berryman is the smartest kid in the huge school.”

In maths we have been learning about arrays to count faster and to help us
learn how to do our times tables. We have been making blobs of dots into
arrays. This is 3 rows and 3 columns which is 3x3 and the answer is 9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In reading we have been learning to read. Well, it is just homework.

In religion we have been learning about the resurrection which is Jesus coming
back to life. We have been learning a dance to the song in the footsteps of Jesus for assembly.

And, always remember to follow in the footsteps of Jesus!

Grade 3 News- By Bonnie R & Isaak V

Hello! It's Bonnie and Isaak reporting here from grade 3 St Kieran’s, live. We're focusing on the fire wombat and Jackie French, her books are amazing! Our class has been doing a summary on the book, it's very interesting! If you want some facts for fire, we are happy to tell you.

We also have been learning multiplication, like  5x7 and maybe harder. Need help on multiplication? I'll help you! So, look on your multiplication and which numbers first? Say 5 is first, do 5 lines 3 next. Put 3 dots next to the lines count the array then you have the answer.

We recently had public speaking, they did an amazing job they did robot houses, robots, and other cool creations! Round of applause please to them!

Scared of being bullied? Our classroom is kind! We silently work, and we’re sensible! We will help you work if you’re stuck. Come visit if you'd like. It would be nice to see you.

Grade 4/5 News- By Ella C & Nate S

Hi, we are from 4/5 A and we are here to tell you about our learning.

First, I would like to tell you about our writing. We have been learning about Poems. Poems have Rhyming, Rhythm and much more! Poetry can also be raps, books and music.

Secondly, I would like to tell you about our book focus, Heroes. Heroes is a book that tells you a true story of an animal or human saving lives its one of the stories we have read in 4/5A.

Rip the dog, Rip was a stray but he was found by a man called Mr. King. Mr. King and Rip found many people.

Thirdly, I would like to tell you about our Spelling. In Spelling we have been learning "Silent letters”. Silent are a series of letters at the beginning of a word, like know, know has the silent “k” in it.

Lastly, I would like to tell you about our math. In math we have been learning about Angles. Angles are a limit of how the degree is, for example 90’ on 90’ degree is a right angle, there is many more angles, but I can't tell you about them now.

Thank you for reading,
Ella Cooper and Nate Scott

Grade 5/6C News- by Althea D

What is going on in 5/6C

In 5/6C reading, we have been reading a book about survivors getting lost out in the wild or in the snow mountains and having to survive. In this book called “Survivors” people have been getting stuck in dangerous places and have nearly died but luckily they survived.

Survivors is a very good and interesting book because it can teach us students to never give up and to be grateful all the time. 5/6C has only read two chapters of the book and every one has been loving it. The two chapters the students have read are Yossi Ghinsburg and Claudio Corti.

For writing, we do lots of different stuff like ten facts about waterfalls, perfect world, who stole shai, who took Ms Green’s burger and lots of persuasive writing. For the waterfalls we are making a fact hexagon to hang up in the class room.

For math, we usually go to Ms Howard's class or stay in our class. Last term, (Term 1 and 2) Grade 5’s had to stay in Mr Cheeseman’s and grade 6’s had to go to Ms Howard’s but now in term 3 it's the other way around. We have been learning about fractions and improper fractions. We normally go on 99 maths at the start of the lesson and do adding and subtracting fractions.
That's our report for now. Thank you.

Grade 5/6H- By Lachie S

In 5\6H math we have been learning about equivalent fractions and adding and subtracting fractions with a whole number. In VIPERS, we've been reading and writing about the book which is the hobbit. It is a very long book. Lots of people love this school and we have got a new student. Her name is Violet, she came to St Kieran’s at the start of term three  and we hope she feels very welcome in 5/6H.

Specialist Learning- By Jade C

In the last couple of weeks our specialist teachers have planned lots of fun activities for us. For example Miss Li created a super fun and creative activity. On the first of August Miss Li taught us how to design our own Chinese mask everyone had so much fun being creative and learning about the different Chinese meaning for all different colours.

And of course we can't forget about art with Miss. V because for the last couple of weeks Miss V has been teaching us about weaving. Weaving is a type of art like knitting. In the senior classes, we have been weaving some new book marks which is perfect for our up coming book week.

Interview with Mr Lachie- By Hendrix S

Hendrix decided for his part of the newsletter he'd interview one of the staff favourites, Mr Lachie. He asked multiple questions and got answers.

"How long have you worked at St Kierans?"
Mr Lachie replied, saying that he has been working at our lovely school for 6 years.

"What is your favorite part about working at St Kierans?"
He enjoys annoying Mr Mac but we all know he doesn't mean it.

"What  was your favorite subject at primary school?"
His favourite subject was when Mr Mac taught him sport.

"What do you like to do in your freetime?"
Mr Lachie likes to hang out with my friends in his freetime.

"What is your favorite thing to do in the freetime?"
His favourite thing to do in his freetime is to make a joke about Mr Anderson.

He is a really funny guy, he makes me laugh every single day. He is very kind and respectful to all of the staff and students. Mr Lachie is learning to be a teacher and is doing placement with the Grade 2s at the moment. Even though Mr Lachie likes a joke and pretends to be annoying, we all know that he is a very caring and respectful person that wants everyone to learn and feel safe.
