Student Wellbeing

Some of our Wellbeing goals at St Kieran’s are:

  • to foster an inclusive, caring learning community that nurtures the wellbeing, resilience and empowerment of all;

  • to implement Social-Emotional Learning into the curriculum in the junior grades; and

  • to continue to strengthen partnerships between the family/school and community. 


The following programs and achievements have assisted our school in attaining the above goals:

  • Health and Wellbeing Team (comprised of student, parent and staff representatives)

  • ‘Seasons For Growth’ – a special program to support children dealing with issues arising from personal grief and loss

  • ‘BounceBack!’ Resilience Program (Helem McGrath, 2011) used as a primary resource in Years Prep-3

  • School veggie garden – growing, harvesting and preparing food such as soup and other fruit/vegetable dishes; regular garden produce market stall on Friday afternoons

  • Monthly school breakfasts organised by parent team

  • Care group – preparing meals for families experiencing temporary hardship

  • Attaining Stage 2 of Healthy Together Victoria’s Achievement Program

  • Ride 2 School Day, Walk Safely to School Day, etc.

  • Yearly cyber safety contracts (signed by students and parents) concerning student use of information and communications technologies

  • Mini Oblates ( student leaders motivating each class to s a social justice goal each term)

  • Assembly Awards for achievements as well as enacting Gospel values

  • Excursions and incursions for resilience building (such as NED and Camp Quality)

  • Celebrating special days and occasions (such as National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, NAIDOC Week, ANZAC Day choir singing each year at the Moe march)

  • Parent information evenings/parenting courses

  • Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day gift stalls

  • Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day liturgies and activity mornings/afternoons

  • Yearly Grandparents’ Day liturgies and activity mornings

  • Little Athletics, Football and other sporting clinics

  • Individual/small group keyboard and guitar tuition

  • Buddy programs
